The Trump administration recently announced it was ending the 16 year long temporary protected status (TPS), provided to some 200 000 El Salvadoran migrants.
Evidently, this stance fits the ‘America First’ theme President Trump was elected on, given a reduction in low skilled immigrants will ultimately increase wages for working class Americans.
And with America already riddled by Hispanic gang violence, the removal of 200 000 Salvadorans will likely ease such pressures, given they are among the most violent people on the planet.
Likewise, now the original earthquake which justified this temporary protected status is over, it is fitting these people return to aid their fellow Salvadorans.
So from an ‘America First’ perspective, this policy ticks all the right boxes.
As such, the only groups who would oppose said decision, are those who don’t have the American people’s best interests at heart. Along with those who make incoherent, incorrect arguments by regurgitating ‘America is a nation of immigrants,’ which implies that all immigration restrictions are unethical, mean and wrong.
“200 000 Salvadorans may be forced to leave the U.S. as Trump ends immigration protection,” Washington Post, by Nick Miroff, January 8, 2017:
The Trump administration announced Monday that it will terminate the provisional residency permits of about 200,000 Salvadorans who have lived in the country since at least 2001, leaving them to face deportation.
The administration said it will give the Salvadorans until Sept. 9, 2019, to leave the United States or find a way to obtain a green card, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security. After earthquakes hit the country in 2001, Salvadorans were granted what is known as Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, and their permits have been renewed on an 18-month basis since then.
Monday’s announcement is the latest step by the administration to cut the number of foreigners living in the United States — by squeezing the flow of legal immigration and intensifying efforts to expel those who arrived illegally.
The efforts span nearly every facet of the American immigration system. Arrests by immigration enforcement agents have increased 40 percent. Trump has slashed the number of refugees accepted by the United States to the lowest level since 1980. And last week his administration sent lawmakers an $18 billion blueprint for the first phase of a Mexico border wall….
